Preston

We live in Preston now and i'm not a fan. Lot's of things have happened. I haven't written since a friend came to stay with us. He was with us for three months and now he's returned home to Portland. Competitive job and housing market in Melbourne right now. Not good for students, creatives, travellers. One of the reasons I left Sydney to begin with. We were very close and it's strange not having him around.

New Years

Took off to Byron Bay to work at Falls Festival. Drove from Melbourne with two awesome girls and one passive-aggressive faux-hippy, camping at Belanglo State forest half-way through where we creeped ourselves out next to a little lake over beers. We took turns driving and ate chips and crackers for every meal. I remember Alice and I sleeping in the back seat and waking up to La Femme playing at dusk.
Despite many internal discussions with myself about not being completed fucked on New Years day for the first time in 6 years, I spent the first few hours of the 1st of Jan on ket and speed in the back of a ute. If it hadn't have been so fun I would scold myself for not even having the decency to stick to MDMA.

Went back to the tent with M at 4am, listened to a story that is so devastatingly common among woman I love, and passed out after sharing a joint on her blow up mattress under a purple sky.

Loved all the people I met personally, didn't care too much for the crowd as a whole.

Music in general was as you would expect. Nothing stood out. Mainstream average. 2/5. Still fun while fucked. Evidence of me on a new friends shoulders for 'Covered in Chrome' for the 3rd time in the last year as documented by M.

Just in case you were thinking looking cool and being sun safe were mutually exclusive... Think again, mate.

Christmas Day

A 37 degree Christmas day at the beach surrounded by more food than two people should even be allowed to look at. The homesickness passed after about 4 hours of alternating between bloody marys and vegan eggnog, becoming literal sickness by the 6th hour. Pausing briefly to reflect and hold my stomach solemnly, the nausea eventually passed with the help of a few joints and the Father Ted christmas special. I woke up at 11am lying in a pile of pistachio shells and cherry seeds.

I love Christmas so much.

If it wasn't for all the Christmas specials right now I dunno what i'd do.

Prahran, Melbourne

The view from the gym. My dismal lack of fluorescent tights means I do not yet fit in. Staying strong, 6 months in and no one has commented on my oversized t-shirts, hoping this momentum will carry me through into next year and forever more.

North Melbourne

Dinner with Elyse and two Sams. Beer and chinese food and christmas talk. None of us are Melbourne originals. Turns out one of the Sams and I lived around the corner from each other in Marrickville for years.
